Random groups for classroom activities
For a short discussion activity, an organizer may only need a fresh membership mix and similar headcounts. This example uses neutral labels rather than student records. It shows exactly what random grouping does, without suggesting that a simple tool settles safeguarding or data-protection requirements.

1. Use only the labels you need
Enter one activity label per participant. Keep the mapping between labels and people within your own appropriate process. Do not add dates of birth, grades, support plans or other sensitive student details. Two identical labels remain two separate entries unless you explicitly deduplicate.
2. Preview three group sizes
Load the ten-label example and set Number of teams to 3. The size preview shows 4, 3 and 3. It describes headcounts, not a promised membership arrangement. No participant label is discarded just because ten does not divide evenly by three.
3. Generate and review before presenting
Generate teams and inspect all ten labels. One randomly selected team receives the extra participant. You can rename the teams to activity stations, copy results or show a larger presentation view. Check the output before distributing a printout.
What to expect
Ten labels produce one group of four and two groups of three. Every label appears exactly once. Which group receives four labels and which labels belong together are randomized.
What the tool does not decide
The generator does not understand learning needs, friendship conflicts, access requirements or skill levels. When membership needs constraints, use an appropriate separate process instead of assuming random groups satisfy them. There are no child accounts or student-profile features.
Next time you run this activity
A named saved list can reduce typing for the next activity, but shared browsers expose saved data to other users. Neutral labels and a carefully stored local backup can be more appropriate than keeping identifiable names on a shared computer.
